Why Dont I Lose Weight?

Thanks for taking the time to visit my new website. I hope I can help you with your problem. You say you recently gave up smoking and have also been having trouble with constipation.

Without knowing exactly what you are eating, the first thing I would ask is "are you eating enough?" Our bodies are so great at kicking in the survival mechanisms, that the first thing it will do is slow down all processes to conserve energy if it is not getting enough fuel. This is the most common problem I find with my clients diets after eating rubbish.

Secondly, I would try cutting out all processed foods. I know you said that you cook meals yourself from scratch, but are you still eating bread? pasta? pastry? Try cutting out the foods made from grains-wheat, rye, etc. This alone has made a huge difference to many. It can also help with consitpation when you replace the grain foods with fruits and vegetables. As can drinking more water which I am sure you already know.

If you have been taking medications (even nonprescription ones) to assist with your constipation, it can take a long time to return to normal function without them. This is something they don't tell you when you start to take them. So take it easy, use them sparingly if you must while your body readjusts itself. Base every meal and snack around a protein source and always eat fruits or fibrous vegetables at every sitting.

Try full cream yoghurt with fresh fruit, left over cooked meat and a huge salad or fresh fruit and a protein shake. Frozen or fresh berries are great blended with a protein shake for a quick rushed snack or meal. Always, think about the health benefits of food you are eating. Grain foods (yes even wholemeal stuff) has very little nutrition and will not help with constipation either.

I have published a couple of sample menus on my blog. Go there to get an idea of what to eat on a given day. These are just samples though, so make up your own meals and snacks with foods that you enjoy based on these ideas.
